“Along with the decisions that strengthen the EU’s autonomy towards Russia, the prime minister has said that we should see other measures to support the citizens,” government spokesman G. Oikonomou told Real radio station at noon.
Mr. Oikonomou stressed that in order to achieve our goals we must have rifts on the internal front and pointed out that the government is pushing the EU for financial initiatives, with other southern countries on its side. “Let us show support for Ukraine, but also for the EU to support the states in this direction,” Oikonomou said, adding that the EU must reconcile the interests of 27 states.
At the same time, he noted that he expected clearer messages from the EU for the support of citizens, depending on those received in the pandemic. “We were waiting for faster moves, Brussels must get the message,” he said.
He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was not the answer.
Referring to the possible extension of support for gasoline precision, he said that it will be done as much as possible within the budget, and stressed that the government has not backed down from its commitments to reduce taxes.
Referring to the Greek-Turkish and Tsavousoglou’s statements, Mr. Economou said that there is an escalating provocation by the Turks, characterizing as unacceptable and unhistorical the statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister. “We are immediately confronted with these unacceptable statements at all levels, in alliances and in bilateral relations. These statements are unhistorical and have nowhere to go. We will not take a single step back to our sovereignty and protection. All of this reflects the multiple internal “Erdogan’s problems, the nervousness and the dissatisfaction that exists because of the successive successes of the prime minister on the international stage,” said Mr. Economou.
Finally, he said that “hybrid threats” could be threats such as Evros in 2020, or cybersecurity, and added that the government had successfully managed such threats, which did not see the light of day. “Every country that understands the international environment must take action to address them. In the past, we have successfully managed such threats that have not seen the light of day as in the field of cybersecurity,” the government spokesman said.
