G. Economou: We are working on ways to reduce the crisis footprint as much as possible

Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou, speaking to Mega TV about energy price hikes, said there was already a pillar of horizontal government support that had reached 2 billion euros and would continue to exist. “It may expand,” he added, noting that at the same time taxes and burdens have been removed from the middle class, such as the new reduction of ENFIA.

“All the revenue-raising policy we have pursued has been absorbed by the unprecedented wave of price increases. That is why we are working on ways to reduce the impact of this crisis as much as possible,” he added.

He stressed: “One thing is for sure. There is no possibility of available space and resources not being used to have the maximum impact on the effort to curb price increases.”

Mr. Oikonomou noted that if this rally of price increases continues, we will constantly chase our tail and that is why the Prime Minister took the initiative and asked for European intervention.

Referring to the meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Tayyip Erdogan, Giannis Oikonomou stated that it obviously has to do with the great common challenges for the two countries created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “They must be addressed in one direction so that we do not accumulate problems but solve them. Kyriakos Mitsotakis is always open to dialogue. It goes without saying that accuracy will be a problem for both the Greek and the Turk. The adverse consequences for tourism and economy will be for the two countries “, said Mr. Oikonomou and added:

“The prime minister always goes in a positive mood, without feeding illusions and illusions and without differentiating himself from the clear positions of Greece which are based on international law. We live in historical moments. Things change violently, like a few months ago no one had “We are two countries doomed by geography to coexist and to have channels of communication.”

In addition, Mr. Economou said that we believe that we have every benefit with Turkey to see the challenges posed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the new day in Europe.

“The international community’s disapproval of any form of expansionism and revisionism is clear,” he said.

Asked about the possibility of early elections, Giannis Oikonomou stressed that stability is required. “Nothing changes. The elections will take place in 2023, on time,” he added.
