G. Economou’s ‘window’ for a new accuracy check with expanded criteria

Speaking to SKAI, the government representative, Yiannis Oikonomou, left open the possibility of a new accuracy check and even with expanded criteria so that as many beneficiaries as possible could receive it.

As he said, accuracy in energy and fuel is one of the biggest difficulties in the daily life of citizens not only in Greece, but in the whole world. “Our country runs the largest social support program in all of Europe and this is not disputed. And as the prime minister said as long as the crisis lasts, we will be here to support society with horizontal measures, such as electricity, but also with more targeted measures for those who are most in need through a range of activities, whether this is in terms of greater electricity benefits or in terms of fuel or in terms of direct funding, as has been done many times, in their bank accounts to cope with the price hikes in consumer products”. he said characteristically.

He added that with whatever margin is created, the government will stand by the citizens, without jeopardizing the country’s fiscal balance.

Asked about a new precision check, he emphasized that “every measure we take in its next dimension always has an expanded perimeter. For example, the provision for fuel started with a perimeter for those who had a family income of up to 30,000 euros and the second program will concern people with income up to 45,000 euros. So every time any aid is given within the framework allowed by our economic policy, it is aid that we look to catch as many people as possible”, pointed out Mr. Economou.

Finally, he referred to the “unfreezing” of pensions after 11 years, noting that the increases, which will be given from January 2023, will move close to the level of 5%.
