G. Georgantas: Our priority is animal husbandry and the primary sector – We face the crisis decisively

The message that the government gives priority to animal husbandry and the primary sector was sent from Ioannina by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. George Georgantas, on his first tour in the region.

In his statements, during his meeting with the Governor of Epirus Mr. Aleko Kachrimanis, Mr. Georgantas stressed that the primary sector is the backbone of the Greek region and the government has supported him, supports him and will continue to support him with specific interventions. in order to address the increased production costs. “We are moving forward with a decisive response to the crisis,” he said.

He reminded that measures of 200 million euros that were announced in the previous period are already being implemented and the payment of aid at a certain percentage, on the turnover of last year, to farmers for the purchase of animal feed is expected.

Answering a question from a journalist, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure was categorical, emphasizing that there is no issue of food crisis, as well as stocks exist and imports are made from alternative markets. During his visit to the Region, Mr. Georgantas met with the President of the Federation of Greek Beekeepers Associations, Mr. Tassos Pontikis, with representatives of the Epirus Pig breeders, Mr. Aristides Exarchos and Costas Christou, the President and the Director of the General Agricultural Cooperative of Ioannina, Mr. Haris Liouri and Vassilis Mitsios and representatives of the Association of Mobile Breeders, Mr. Giannis Dekolis and Angelos Foukas.

Afterwards, Mr. Georgantas met with the Mayor of Ioannina, Mr. Moussi Elisaf and with the administration of DEEP Ioannina and ONNED.

In his meetings, Mr. Georgantas was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Regional Development, Mr. Christiana Kalogirou.
