The assurance that the government will be on the side of the farmers, during the energy crisis, as it was during the coronavirus pandemic and natural disasters, was given by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, George Georgantas in a meeting with farmers from Serres, which lasted almost 2 hours.
“The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis supports our farmers with actions. As it stood by them to face the consequences of the pandemic and natural disasters, so now it supports them with concrete measures in order to face the consequences of the energy crisis,” he said. Mr. Georgantas added: “We are talking to them. The doors are always open for our producers”.
At the same time, Mr. Georgantas, referring to the visit of the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, to the farmers’ blocks, pointed out: taxation and the lack of any support “.
For their part, the representatives of the bloc from Lefkonas and Promachonas of Serres appeared moderately optimistic after the meeting, with the representative of the blocs, Stergio Lito, noting that: “We are waiting for the clarifications on what the previous minister had announced”.
As he said, “we found that the doors of the ministry are really open. We want to hope that in the coming days what was said for real support to the real farmers who produce and cultivate to see them in action.”
Finally, as pointed out by officials of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the subsidy scenarios for the purchase of fertilizers are not within the measures considered by the government.
