G. Gerapetritis: Any additional fiscal space created will be channeled to the citizens

“Right now there is an on-site investigation by an echelon linked to the chemical analysis of the events in case we have any spill event. We will have updates within the day and the public will be notified. It is obvious that it will be exhausted, and already is, every possibility that exists to entrench any event. We still have no information except from the Serbian side. Our assessment is that we will have more data within the day,” State Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis emphasized in an interview on Channel 1 of Piraeus in response to a question for the plane crash in Kavala.

Referring to the Power pass after noting that unfortunately in the political arena the true meaning of words has been lost and particularly heavy and derogatory words are used very easily, which shifts any rational discussion, he said “as the prime minister stated, 60% of the of additional burden incurred by households. This position is based on specific objective data. It was calculated by the independent supervisory and regulatory bodies what the additional burden was, which was estimated at about 450 million. On this basis 60% is already made up by the aid, and in fact there is more aid than what was originally planned as June is also included”.

“Citizens see for this particular seven-month period the replenishment of 60% of the increase they had,” he noted, underlining that what is said by the opposition that citizens do not see the 600 euros is a huge error.

“All citizens will see the replenishment at 60%. No country has replenished all the losses that exist due to the increase in current. This would be completely impossible because as everyone understands it would be a fiscal bomb. Greece according to its official data EU and OECD is the country which, in proportion to the GDP, has given the greatest support to the citizens to replenish the energy increase. These are objective data that cannot be disputed,” Mr. Gerapetritis emphasized.

The Minister of State underlined that the government was consistent in announcing up to 600 euros of reimbursement and up to 60%. “We are also the country that has strengthened the citizens with the largest amounts and this has been possible due to the fact that our finances are doing well,” he said.

“Whatever additional fiscal space is created will be channeled to the citizens and furthermore we are not going to risk the fiscal balance of the country” he added.

In addition, Mr. Gerapetritis made it clear that the experiments we have experienced in the recent past with the derailment of the Greek economy with excessive subsidies which, as he said typically, torpedo the stability of the economy resulting in huge tax increases, will not be seen by the current government.

Finally, he referred to the government’s initiatives in the energy sector and concluded by saying “we will work at the service of the citizens, always ensuring the strengthening of the most vulnerable and the self-sufficiency and self-reliance of the country”.
