Speed, efficiency and transparency are the axes that characterize our actions in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in all emergencies due to climate change, but also chronic pathogens, said the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. George Karagiannis, answering a question from Georgios Lambroulis (KKE) about the restoration of the damage caused by “Ianos” in Karditsa and the flood protection of the area, in the context of the parliamentary control.
“And not only that”, said Mr. Karagiannis, “since in cooperation with the competent bodies at national, regional and local level, we have allocated more than 240 million euros for the restoration and upgrading of the infrastructure of the region”.
He noted that the number of registrations exceeded 6,000 and added: of the Region – had to be assisted by the special know-how of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
In fact, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport proceeded to the immediate additional funding with 23 million for all the affected Municipalities, of which 6 belong to the Regional Unit of Karditsa.
Regarding the buildings that were damaged, he stressed: “our Ministry has provided the beneficiaries with an emergency allowance that amounted to a total of € 127 million, of which € 54.6 million concerned the wider area of Karditsa”.
The Undersecretary stressed that “the political leadership of the Ministry and specifically the Minister, Costas Karamanlis from the first moment proposed four basic principles:
First, the immediate mobilization and presence at political and official level in every point of crisis.
Secondly, the design and implementation of a first package of measures to support local communities.
Thirdly, cooperation with all relevant bodies and substantial assistance even beyond formal responsibilities and
Fourth, the effort to formulate a long-term plan that will upgrade the infrastructure of the affected area as a whole “.
According to Mr. Karagiannis, “with this philosophy we also moved to repair the damage caused by” Ianos “in the wider area of Karditsa”.
He clarified that the responsibility assigned to the Ministry does not concern the construction and maintenance of flood protection works or the cleaning and policing of streams, but the conclusion of a contract for the restoration of the main volume of the road infrastructure that was affected. “With absolute transparency, we have allocated € 143 million for the execution of most of the restoration projects”, underlined the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.
Responding to Mr. Lambroulis, he clarified: “It is wrong what you said that the Contractor has already received 10.8 million euros. So do not expose yourself! He has received absolutely nothing! The Contractor is there, he will first fulfill the obligations he has undertaken “From his contract and then he will be paid, as provided. For the first time the State is there and in less than a year it is doing actions and restoration works. This, as you know, has not happened again”.
“Our government does not avoid facing the problems. It is there, it is facing them, the money has been given and the projects have started in record time. This is the reality”, concluded the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. George Karagiannis.
