G. Karagiannis: In three months we allocated almost 41 million euros to the earthquake victims of Crete

The immediate, coordinated and effective moves that took place immediately after the catastrophic earthquake in Crete were mentioned, from the floor of Parliament, by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, George Karagiannis, focusing on meeting the needs of temporary housing, in the provision of Free State Aid.

Answering a relevant question by KINAL MP Vassilis Kegeroglou, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure said that to date, within about three months of the earthquake, the state has allocated through the platform arogi.gov.gr almost 41 million euros and concerns 6,670 beneficiaries. “I think such a thing has not happened again, in such a short time and this should be credited to the government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally,” said Mr. Karagiannis.

Regarding the temporary housing of the earthquake victims, he stated that “124 houses have already been granted and in fact, in the immediate future, a new supply of another 90 houses will be implemented”.

Respectively, for the school complexes that were affected by the earthquake, Mr. Karagiannis made it known that “the Building Infrastructures have provided almost 100 school halls, 69 of which have already been installed and another 27 are being installed gradually”.

According to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, “4 school complexes in the area were repaired quickly and today, which needed small-scale repairs to reopen, have already been handed over for use to the school community”.

Then, Mr. Karagiannis referred to the granting of Free State Aid for the reconstruction or repair of all properties, clarifying that “we did something that happens for the first time, we removed the restriction that existed for decades and the 150 sq.m. For other properties over 150 sq.m., an interest-free loan was provided “.

“The state was next to the first moment, no one was homeless. We made sure from the first moment that no one was left out,” he noted.

He also reminded that the competent Ministries immediately proceeded to the issuance of a JMC “which provided for the granting of a one-time emergency financial assistance of 14, 8 or 3 thousand euros respectively, for each type of building installation, as first aid against housing assistance”.

In addition, as far as companies are concerned, “for damages that do not relate to building facilities, but to assets, such as equipment, raw materials, goods, etc., are also included in the State Aid and are entitled to compensation,” he said. Karagiannis.

In closing, he assured that “the more the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis achieves the growth of economic activity in the country, the greater the possibility of expanding social benefits in such phenomena, will grow accordingly. We were and are in the front line, always next to the citizen and I think “Crete and the Cretans have received the attention they deserve and need from our government.”
