G. Katrougalos: Turkey should respect International Law and stop the occupation of Cyprus

“Turkey must stop the occupation of Cyprus, Syria and Iraq. International law must be fully respected,” stressed the head of the Foreign Affairs Department of SYRIZA-PS, Giorgos Katrougalos, at the 5th Congress of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) where participated and delivered a greeting as president of the United European Left of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

In particular, welcoming “on behalf of the progressive political parties of the left and ecology of the Council of Europe” and on behalf of the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, Mr. Katrougalos said that “together with our former President Tiny Kox who is today president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, together with your comrades and our comrades Feleknas Uca and Hişyar Özsoy we are fighting for the implementation of the Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights to immediately release Demirtas, Kavala and other prisoners who are in Turkish prisons “. “You are not only fighting for yourselves. You are not only fighting for the Kurds or the Turks,” said Mr. Katrougalos, to emphasize: “You are fighting for Democracy, human rights and freedom in Europe. And the Turkish government must to respect international and European law, the European Convention on Human Rights. We must stand against the plans for a new invasion of Syria. Turkey must stop the occupation of Cyprus, Syria and Iraq. The international must be fully respected fair enough”.

The head of Foreign Affairs of SYRIZA-PS concluded his greeting by underlining: “They think they can intimidate you but they don’t know that the harder they persecute your ideas, the more powerful they become. You will win for you and for us. Long live the HDP.”

As stated in the relevant SYRIZA press release, the conference was also attended by MPs Yannis Bournos – deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Department, in charge of European affairs, of KO – and Nina Kassimati, as well as Nektarios Bugdanis of the Department of International Relations, on behalf of the Party of the European Left .
