G. Papamanolis – Dozas: ‘Precision will be treated with a new production model’

The Piraeus Chamber of Crafts requests from the Government the immediate taking of initiatives to support the domestic production and elaboration of a realistic production model in order to face the effects of the international energy crisis and the increase in raw materials, agricultural products, food and minerals.

The messages that reach the market already at the end of 2021 require special attention and immediate mobilization on the part of the government, the chambers and the companies. Commodity categories from agricultural products to metals are already showing increases of tens of percentage points, and analysts’ estimates are pointing to impending consecutive increases in basic foodstuffs since goods such as corn, soybeans and wheat are up to 30 percent. % on the prices they had until December 31, 2021!

Based on these data, the President of the Piraeus Chamber of Crafts Mr. George Papamanolis – Dozas points out in a statement that immediate measures must be taken to address inflationary trends that will be stimulated from abroad and will have unpredictable consequences for society and the economy.

“After the economic crisis that started in 2009 and has plagued our country for almost a decade, but also with the unpredictable consequences of the health crisis from the pandemic, a national productive reconstruction plan should have been implemented. Instead, it continues. There should be a suspension of productive activities by closing companies, shortages of staff in the primary sector and in the technical professions, a tendency to strengthen imports of dubious quality products due to lack of domestic production, but also cannibalism conditions by foreign companies to the detriment of Greek production. “There is no excuse for not talking about the new production model and making decisions. The misunderstood state-owned” service “economy will not fill the housewife’s basket,” he said.

Mr. Papamanolis – Dozas comments that the coming price increases and inflation will not be addressed with communication tactics. It is necessary to plan a development program that will integrate industry – handicrafts within the national strategic goals of the Government with an integrated industrial policy and specific goals, as well as direct support of companies with productive and export activities, especially in third countries.

Once again, the BEP points out that no crisis has been dealt with in an outdated institutional framework, without political decisions and in the complete absence of realism. The situation will not be addressed by claiming that the price increases are due to supply chain disruption due to the pandemic or by unsubstantiated assurances that prices will soon return to normal. It is time for specialized interventions, upgrading of the actors involved in the industry and preparation for an impending crisis.
