G. Plakiotakis: The government solves chronic problems

“Our 14th Congress takes place at a time particularly important for the world, our country, Greek women and men, but also for the New Democracy and our political life. Our world is different. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is “It is a blatant violation of international law, it threatens the territorial integrity of a European country, it causes thousands of innocent victims, it takes us back to times of horror and savagery that we wanted to forget,” said Giannis Plakiotakis, speaking at the ND conference.

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy stressed that Greece, with its attitude, is, once again, on the right side of history. “Ukraine must be supported. War crimes must be investigated and those who committed them must be punished,” he said, noting that the timing was important for our country as well.

“The global energy crisis, as well as the additional negative impact of the war, have added to the health crisis that has plagued the planet for two years. “In the face of this very difficult reality, the New Democracy government is working systematically to support society and the economy. We stand by every Greek woman and every Greek man,” he said.

Mr. Plakiotakis also said that the government solves chronic problems and completes institutional changes in education, health, the insurance system, digitization and modernization of the state. “We are restoring the middle class and taking care of our weakest financially compatriots. With tax cuts, targeted measures of 4 billion euros to tackle accuracy, increase the minimum wage, reduce insurance contributions, special allowances for low-income and low-income people,” he said. He then referred to the actions implemented by the Ministry of Shipping.

He spoke about the support of seafarers and shipping, the strengthening of the Coast Guard, the utilization of ports, the increase of coastal connections on barren lines, the protection of human life at sea and on the beaches, the creation of a National Strategy for Integrated Maritime Policy in the island area. For the first time, special financial tools, such as the Nearchos program, in the new digital age, in the relations of the Coast Guard with the society.

“Just a look at the program of the Conference and its topics convinces that New Democracy rightly dominates the political life of Greece. We are the party that proves every day that it chooses to speak less and listen more to the citizens. We are the party that prefers action “We are the party that wants and can turn plans into tangible work. We are the party that is not interested in dominating society, but in convincing society,” he continued.

At the same time, he attacked SYRIZA: “Sterile opposition, unfulfilled promises, false dilemmas, division, demagogy, ideologies, permanent denial of everything, an attempt to cancel all that we have achieved. “The great battle we have won, friends, the battle of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, of the deputies, of our executives in every field of social action, is the battle against populism.”

He concluded: “It is now our duty and duty to continue with the same determination. Because populism is always here and lurking to return. Our weapon, the few words and the many deeds. The absolute consistency in our pre-election commitments. “The right priorities. The continuation of the great institutional changes. The reforms. Our weapon, our executive potential, all over Greece. The one who won the battle of the elections, can also win the war against populism.”
