G20: The session of the Foreign Ministers started with the participation of the USA and Russia

The heads of diplomacy of the G20 member states began their meeting in Bali today with the participation of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, who had not met until now after the war in Ukraine began.

Retno Marsudi, the foreign minister of Indonesia, the host country of the G20 meetings this year, called immediately after the start of the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the international economic organization, in front of her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, to end the war in Ukraine .

“We have a responsibility to end the war as soon as possible and to settle our differences at the negotiating table, not on the battlefield,” the Indonesian foreign minister said at the start of the session.

Ms. Retno added that multilateral cooperation is the only way to address global challenges and expressed hope that the summit of the heads of diplomacy of the Group of Twenty most developed nations on the globe would provide a way to deal with the impact of the conflict.

The Russian military invasion of Ukraine and its consequences around the world, in the fields of economics and geopolitics, will be at the center of the talks, but finding consensus is said to be difficult and exchanges are said to be tense, especially those between the West and Moscow .
