G7 leaders are concerned about the situation on the border between Israel and Lebanon, says document

G7 leaders are very concerned about the situation on the border between Israel and Lebanon, according to a draft statement expected to be released after the group’s summit this week, to which Reuters had access.

Furthermore, according to the document, the authorities must point out that they endorse the United States’ efforts to guarantee a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The statement added that Western leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to the Two-State Solution so that Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace, side by side.

Furthermore, they called on Israel to refrain from a large-scale offensive against the southern Gaza city of Rafah, “in line with its obligations under international law.”

40 rockets launched

Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged attacks in recent months, raising tension on the border with Lebanon.

This Thursday (13), the Israeli Army said that 40 rockets were fired at northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, causing at least ten fires.

The group said it struck Israeli military barracks using Katyusha and Falaq rockets and used drones. Hezbollah highlighted that it reached the bases with drones.

Attack for the second day in a row

Thursday’s launches come after more than 200 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel on Wednesday (12), according to the IDF.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for some of Wednesday’s shooting, noting that it was in response to an assassination carried out by the IDF in southern Lebanon.

The armed group confirmed on Tuesday (11) the death of Talib Sami Abdullah, known as Abu Talib, and three other fighters. According to Lebanese and Israeli media, Talib was a prominent leader in the group.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday that it had killed the Hezbollah member in an airstrike on Tuesday.

In a statement, the military described Talib Sami Abdullah as “one of Hezbollah’s most senior commanders in southern Lebanon,” who they allege was responsible for several attacks against Israeli civilians over several years.
