G7 leaders pledge to fight forced labor, highlight China’s Xinjiang region

Leaders of the G7 – the group of seven major industrial democracies – have agreed to work to remove all forced labour, including alleged state-sponsored forced labor in China’s Xinjiang region, from global supply chains, the White House said in a statement on Tuesday. thursday (28).

In a newsletter released on the final day of a summit in Germany, the White House said leaders are also calling on all countries, including China, to contribute constructively to improving multilateral debt restructuring structures.

Western governments accuse China of trapping middle-income countries in debt with its development programs.

China denies abuses in the Xinjiang region, a major cotton producer that also supplies much of the world’s solar panel materials.
