G7 will try to use “frozen” Russian assets to help Ukraine

The G7 will look for ways to use future proceeds from “frozen” Russian assets to help Ukraine, finance ministers and central bankers from the Group of 7 industrialized nations say, according to a draft statement seen Reuters. The G7 froze about $300 billion in Russian assets shortly after Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022. “Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine,” according to the draft statement. No major changes will be made to the announcement before its final version is released later today, a G7 source said.
