Gabriel Monteiro’s former advisor was not wearing a seat belt, says hitchhiker in testimony

A friend of Vinícius Hayden Witeze, who was with the driver at the time of the fatal accident that killed Gabriel Monteiro’s former adviser, 33, suspects that the vehicle that flipped on Saturday night (28), on RJ-130, in the Serrana Region of Rio de Janeiro, has been supplied with adulterated fuel.

The information was provided in a statement to the 110th DP (Teresópolis). In the statement, obtained by CNN, she says that the car had development problems on the road, and that the two were not wearing seat belts.

In the document, the hitchhiker claims to be a friend of Vinícius, with whom he left Rio de Janeiro for a walk in Nova Friburgo, another city in the mountainous region. The two then decided to go back through Teresópolis, to know the way, and nothing unusual would have happened until then. She reports that, on the way to Nova Friburgo, the car began to have development problems, and that she believed that this would be due to the quality of the gasoline.

“That they decided to fill up in Nova Friburgo again, this time at a trusted gas station (…) That, in Nova Friburgo, the vehicle worked well. That so, when they left for Teresópolis, they once again looked for a gas station to refuel, not finding one with a flag and again filled up at a reliable one without a flag. That as soon as they refueled, the car started to prorate again, strengthening that the problem was really the quality of the gasoline”, says an excerpt from the testimony.

The victim also said, in the document, that Vinícius drove the vehicle practically along the entire road at idle, because the car did not move, and that the road was dark and poorly signposted, and that he had warned Vinícius to be careful. She also said she had dozed off in some stretches.

“So, at a given moment, he cannot remember how it happened, the car was already overturning (…) Who believes that Vinícius did not see the curve, believing it to be a straight due to the lack of adequate road signs, in addition to the darkness. That, throughout the journey, Vinícius even complained about the lack of road signs and that it was very dangerous”, cites another excerpt from the document.

Elsewhere, the victim denies that there was any interference from others in the accident. “That they were practically alone on the road, and there was no type of pursuit or follow-up of a suspicious vehicle. That when it overturned, the deponent was thrown into the back seat of the vehicle, as she was traveling in the front, in the passenger seat, and both without using her seat belt”.

The RJ-130 connects Teresópolis to Nova Friburgo. The Civil Police reported having carried out an investigation at the scene and informed, through a note, that “everything points to the driver’s loss of direction when entering the existing curve in the highway”.

Author of the complaints that led to the opening of an ethical-disciplinary process against councilor Gabriel Monteiro, Vinícius Witeze had been heard on Wednesday (25), by the Council of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. At the time, the former aide arrived wearing a bulletproof vest. Witeze even said that he was being threatened after the allegations.

The body investigates whether there was a breach of decorum on the part of the councilor. At the limit, the action can lead to the cancellation of the parliamentary mandate. President of the City Council’s Human Rights Commission, councilor Teresa Bergher (Citizenship) reports having received a call from Monteiro’s former advisor, in which she requested security.

Witeze was instructed to submit a letter with the request. “He was supposed to deliver the document this Monday (30), but unfortunately, he didn’t have time. It’s all very sad, very shocking and strange. Let’s wait for the expertise in the car”, said Teresa Bergher.

A new expertise, carried out by the Carlos Éboli Criminalistics Institute, is scheduled for this Monday. Witeze’s body will be buried in the afternoon at the Jardim da Saudade Cemetery, in the municipality of Mesquita.
