GAC has successfully tested the Aion LX electric crossover with a range of 1000 km. Mass production should start soon

The Chinese company GAC Motor has reported on the successful test of the Aion LX electric crossover. The peculiarity of the car is its own production battery with a spongy silicon cathode. This technology, as the source writes, makes it possible to make the traction battery more compact and lighter. So, in comparison with standard traction batteries of conventional cars, the one used in the Aion LX is 14% lighter and 20% smaller in volume. It was such a battery that allowed the electric car to demonstrate a power reserve of 1000 km.

The Aion LX was tested at a proving ground in Sanya (Hainan) at an air temperature of 36 ° C (the temperature of the roadbed was approximately 60 ° C) and a humidity of about 90%. Such a difficult temperature regime was necessary to assess the traction battery cooling system and, in general, to assess its effectiveness. The charging rate at high temperature was also measured, battery life and its adaptability to environmental conditions were assessed. All tests ended exactly with the calculations. Interestingly, even with the air conditioner on all the time, the Aion LX’s range was still very decent – 904 km.

When the mass production of the crossover will be launched is not yet reported, but these tests have definitely brought that moment closer.
