Some time ago, ASUS officially showed the world its Zenbook 17 Fold OLED foldable laptop, which, of course, was perceived more as a concept than a real product for mass production. But, as in its time with folding smartphones, today, October 27, the situation has changed dramatically – ASUS representatives officially announced that the device went on sale. So far, it can be bought exclusively in the US through the Newegg retail chain, but in the foreseeable future, the manufacturer plans to expand its zone of influence. True, I would like to immediately clarify that ASUS is asking for an insane price of $ 3,500 for this device.
Of course, if you look only at the characteristics of the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, the price is simply cosmic – for this money you can take a very productive 16-inch MacBook Pro or, for example, a gaming laptop from any manufacturer in an almost top-end configuration. But the ASUS foldable laptop is the first such device on the market that actually functions as a gadget with a flexible display, so it simply cannot be compared with the aforementioned competitors. The laptop comes with an absolutely unique set of features that will probably outweigh the hefty price tag for a certain audience of tech geeks.

For example, a user can use a Zenbook 17 Fold OLED laptop in a fully unfolded state – in this case, a potential buyer receives a huge touch tablet with a 17.3-inch display diagonal with a resolution of 2560×1920 pixels. A keyboard and mouse can be wirelessly connected to this “monitor” to work with absolute comfort and freedom of action. If the user needs a gadget without additional accessories, he can bend the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED in half, getting two displays with a diagonal of 12.5 inches. One will display the content and the other will display the touch keyboard.

If the touch keyboard is not convenient enough, you can add a hardware keyboard on magnets on top of it. And with an Intel Core i7-1250U, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage on an SSD, such a laptop is quite capable of handling basic tasks – an office suite, image editing, surfing the Internet and more. For more complex tasks, it will not work, plus it is worth considering that the manufacturer claims a display life of 30,000 folds (under ideal conditions). This is probably enough for several years of active use of the laptop, but the audience of potential buyers for the gadget is clearly not very large.
