Investigations from the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecution Service (MP-RJ) revealed the performance of an armed criminal organization, led by military police, who followed the model of the former crime office. Based on these investigations, agents of the Specialized Expertise Group in Combating Organized Crime (Gaeco) and the Coordination of Security and Intelligence went to the streets on Thursday (15) to fulfill nine arrest warrants against the members of the group.
Among the targets of the operation are three military police, including a corporation captain. They were crowded in the 9th BPM (Honório Gurgel), the 39th BPM (Belford Purple) and the Prison Special Battalion (BEP).
The investigation revealed that the group worked under orders of bosses of the criminal misdemeanor and was responsible for a deviation and selling scheme of weapons and ammunition seized in operations of the Military Police itself.
Appointed as leader of the organization, Thiago Soares Andrade Silva, known as Goose, commanded the group’s actions, which is also accused of involvement in kidnappings and murders with summary execution characteristics.
According to the complaints of Gaeco, two homicides attributed to the gang draw attention for violence and boldness. In September 2021, Fábio Romualdo Mendes was surprised inside the car and shot in Vargem Pequeno, West Zone of Rio. The following month, in Realengo, Neri Peres Júnior was killed after an ambush hit by rifle shots in the public road.
The warrants were issued by the Military Justice Audit Court and the 3rd Specialized Court in Capital Criminal Organization. All nine accused will be responsible for crimes of armed criminal organization, kidnapping and illegal trade of weapons and ammunition.
