The bill of the Ministry of Health concerning the ratification of the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for the creation of a state-of-the-art hospital in Sparta and the extension of the measures to deal with the pandemic will be introduced tomorrow in the Plenary Session of the Parliament for discussion and voting.
During today’s second reading in the Social Affairs Committee of the Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Health, Asimina Gaga, reiterated the need to vaccinate the other unvaccinated health workers of the NSS who are on work suspension, which, as she said, are about 400.
“About 400 health workers are on suspension. This worries me a lot. It is not a solution, but its logic does not matter, let them be vaccinated to bring them back to the health system. We must convince them to be vaccinated. For their own safety and for “The message they are sending to the public,” Gaga reiterated.
At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Health rejected the allegations of the former Minister of Health and SYRIZA MP Andreas Xanthou for an unacceptable attempt of the government to revoke the permanence of doctors, with an order submitted and passed in an irrelevant bill of the Ministry of Interior.
“The interior ministry regulates who and how many enter the public sector,” Gaga countered, stressing the need for doctors to be evaluated at the end of five years to improve the public health system.
“With the provision, we give doctors the right to work for five years, to see in the end how good he is and to be evaluated for his work. At the same time, the increased points he gets strengthen him in re-announcing the position.
The mayor came and told me that a gynecologist in his area had not given birth for 30 years. Shouldn’t we see that? Examine and evaluate it? “For me, the evaluation should be done more often”, Ms. Gaga emphasized characteristically and added:
“These things must be put in the NSS. The permanent must be done with evaluation so that corrective actions can be made. The Parliament and every government is the manager of the taxpayers’ money. We must do good management. We have islands that do not have winter “They are crowded and in the summer they reach 80,000. What is the solution? Should we hire doctors who will sit and be paid for 8 months or should we go with options from the private sector and cover the temporary needs?”
Responding to accusations by the opposition that the government was trying to hold the contractors hostage, it did not legitimize them. .
“If we and the patients are sealed, we will pay for them. We must be able to help the hospitals that have a problem, with private doctors, where needed. We must see in terms of what is good and sustainable for all of us.
Health systems must be sustainable and the state must know what it spends and what it gets. “We have to manage well,” Gaga said.
“The NSS must be sustainable, flexible and evolving. And these changes must be made now. Together we must look at it substantially, not get lost in the non-essential in order to proceed with better planning,” he noted.
Finally, he thanked the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, emphasizing that “his donations are of exceptional quality” while responding to criticism from opposition MPs for the conversion of the Sparta hospital into NPID, he rejected the allegations about the government’s plan for privatization of the NSS, stressing that “It is easier, more flexible procedures and control to have better results and much better health services.”
Earlier, the former Minister of Health and SYRIZA MP Andreas Xanthos, accused the leadership of the Ministry of Health that “an irrelevant bill of the Ministry of Interior passed a provision, which in essence abolishes the permanence of NSS doctors.”
As he said, a specific article provides for the doctors of the NSS, after five years, to be subject to a crisis and then to be made permanent.
“After the end of the 5-year work, the position is re-advertised and the NSS doctor is re-hired if he meets the criteria.
Not only do you not improve the public health system but you also abolish the security of doctors’ tenure. You negate the prospect of their permanent membership in the NSS. Make it clear that you want to work with private doctors. You gave the gratuitous shot definitively and irrevocably. You choose the line that leads to the complete undermining and weakening of the NSS. It is the strategy of opening the market to buy doctors. “This is the ideological difference between the Left and the Right,” said Mr. Xanthos.
It should be noted that the bill was voted on in principle by ND and KINAL, while SYRIZA and Hellenic Solution were reserved to be placed in the Plenary and the KKE together with MERA25 voted against it.
