The Hollywood Reporter, citing its source, reported that George Martin, author of the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, on the basis of which the series “Game of Thrones” was created, has signed a five-year exclusive contract with HBO. During this period, the writer will create various content for the streaming service, creating new worlds or adapting his already published novels in the script. Unfortunately, there is no exact information about the monetary remuneration for this contract – the sources of The Hollywood Reporter only reported that we are talking about an eight-figure amount.
That is, the author of the famous series of science fiction novels received at least $ 10 million from HBO, but probably much more. Unfortunately for the fans, there is still no information about the new projects of the writer, on which he will work after the signing of the contract. On the other hand, HBO streaming service has five projects in development right now on the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, which, with a high degree of probability, will be curated by George Martin. In particular, he will lead the production of House of the Dragon, which is a prequel to Game of Thrones.
HBO also plans to shoot a prequel series, “Ten Thousand Ships,” which will tell about the events taking place a thousand years before “Game of Thrones” – this is the earliest period in the series of books, which will be filmed. In addition, there is information about three more series and an animated film, which are also at the very early stage of production. Most likely, the decision to sign this contract with Martin was caused by the disastrous eighth season of the series “Game of Thrones” – the showrunners, left without an adaptation script from the author of the cycle, came up with their own plot, which completely disappointed the audience.
