Four people were arrested red-handed this Wednesday (8) when they planned to steal a van in Sulacap, in the west zone of Rio.
According to the Civil Police, the group specializes in stealing and dismantling vans and minibuses, crimes that have already caused losses of more than R$2 million to the tourist transport sector in the state of Rio.
Investigations indicate that the gang had stolen at least seven vehicles used by tourist transport companies. They are also responsible for dismantling and reselling vehicle parts.
According to the Auto Robbery and Theft Police Station (DRFA), Samara da Silva Lima, Rodolfo Franco Pestana, Victor Hugo Venâncio Martins dos Santos and William Teixeira Pires had been monitored for around a month and a half. Thus, the police were able to identify that they were going out to steal another van and intercepted them. In addition to the arrests, agents seized a firearm and a fake weapon.
Rodolfo has several criminal records for crimes against property. Two warrants were served against him: one for a definitive conviction for the crime of reception and the other for preventive detention for the crime of robbery. Furthermore, he was arrested red-handed for using a false document.
The arrests took place as part of Operation Tourniquet. DRFA states that it will continue carrying out investigations and operations and asks that any information be passed on, anonymously, to the DRFA Hotline via Whatsapp (21) 98848-7164.
