Gas voucher should become monthly with PEC for Fuels, says Lira

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), confirmed this Tuesday (28) that the intention of Congress and the government is to grant the gas voucher to low-income families on a monthly basis, as anticipated by Broadcast, a news system in real time from Grupo Estado. Today, the benefit is given every two months.

The parliamentarian accompanied the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), at a housing delivery event in Maceió (AL) and returned to defend the government.

With an eye on the October election, when Bolsonaro will run for a second term at the helm of the country, Palácio do Planalto negotiated with Congress to include in the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) for fuels an increase in Auxílio Brasil, the social program that replaced the Bolsa Família, from R$ 400 to R$ 600, the expansion of the gas voucher to low-income families and a voucher of R$ 1 thousand per month to self-employed truck drivers affected by the high price of diesel.

“Whoever receives a bottle of gas every two months will receive a bottle of gas every month”, said Lira.

If approved, these measures would only last until the end of the year. The government is also considering declaring a state of emergency so as not to run into the electoral law.

Last Friday (24th) the PEC rapporteur, Senator Fernando Bezerra Coelho (MDB-PE), informed that the set of social benefits, called by technicians behind the scenes the “desperation package”, should have a fiscal impact of R$ 34.8 billion outside the spending ceiling – a rule that limits government spending growth.

“Our fight in the National Congress, alongside President Bolsonaro, is to lower the price of energy, because I know the agony he goes through in that office. Every time Petrobras announces an increase in fuel prices, I arrive at the office and he is distressed, embittered,” said Lira.

The president of the Chamber also stated that this week the idea of increasing Auxílio Brasil was “born” in Congress and that he would do everything possible to approve the PEC.

Lira also praised the approval of the 17% ceiling for ICMS on fuel, electricity, telecommunications and public transport, already sanctioned by Bolsonaro, and asked for a vote for the president, who will run for reelection in October.

“We will do everything for Bolsonaro to have the largest proportional vote in the Northeast”, declared the president of the Chamber.
