Gasoline is Bolsonaro’s main problem for elections, says researcher

in interview to CNN This Saturday (18), the president of Instituto Locomotiva, Renato Meirelles, said that successive increases in the price of gasoline are currently the main problem for President Jair Bolsonaro in this year’s election.

“What we have seen is that gasoline appears as the biggest problem for President Bolsonaro’s re-election”, highlighted the researcher.

“All the movement is being taken so that Petrobras is held responsible for the increase in gasoline. The fact is what the vast majority of the Brazilian population thinks, and the polls go in that direction, is that President Bolsonaro is largely responsible for the increase in the price of gasoline,” he added.

Meirelles pointed out that the Federal Government is the company’s largest shareholder and, every time it raises the price of fuel, it receives a greater share of profit for its position.

“Therefore, every move that the president makes to hold Petrobras responsible as if the government were not the biggest shareholder, goes in the direction of making sure that he is not the burden of the current price”, he concluded.
