Gasoline price expected to fall 5.94% in the first quarter of 2022

Gasoline prices should start the year with a drop in the national average. An exclusive survey carried out by ValeCard, a company specializing in fleet management solutions, estimates that in the first quarter there will be an accumulated drop of 5.94%, with fuel sold at R$ 6.18 in March – the lowest rate forecast for 2022 .

In April, the price will rise again and will reach the highest increase in September, hitting R$ 6.55 – at a level similar to the current one. For the last quarter, the forecast is for a slight decrease in the cost of gasoline, remaining slightly above R$ 6.30.

The scenario for this price reduction will be due to the dollar, the main influencer on the cost of fuel. The expectation is that 2022 will be more stable in the economic market, at least at the beginning of the year.

However, as of April, the real is expected to remain undervalued against the dollar, and the difference should increase even more as of April.

The CEO of ValeCard, Geraldo Ortigosa, highlighted that as the value of a barrel of oil is based on the US currency, all costs and production and distribution of gasoline are impacted by the high exchange rate.

“In addition to the macroeconomic balance for the beginning of 2022, our forecast took into account the forecast of the dollar and the formation of the fuel price for the month of January, surveys carried out by the Central Bank and Petrobras, respectively,” stated Ortigosa.

Petrobras reduces price after six months of high

Last Tuesday (14), Petrobras announced that the average sale price of gasoline to distributors went from R$ 3.19 to R$ 3.09 per liter, an average reduction of R$ 0.10 per liter . The new value started to apply from Wednesday (15th).

The last readjustment in fuel prices carried out by Petrobras was on June 12th. This was the first casualty in six months. Since the beginning of the year, the fuel has already increased by more than 70%.

The first increase in 2021 took place on January 18, when the liter of fuel went from R$1.84 to R$1.98, an increase of 7.6%.
