Gathering of the Alpini in Rimini and Eurovision in Turin, hundreds of allegations of harassment

They exploit the confusion of the crowd: they take advantage of it to unleash their most abject instincts and to stifle inhibitions. According to theNational Alpine Association (Ana) are “infiltrators” – as she called them in her press release – who tarnish the body’s “good name”. More than 250 cases of harassment have been reported by the Non Una di Meno association during the meeting of the Alpini in Rimini, which ended on 8 May. Ana “obviously distances herself, stigmatizing them, from the reported uncivilized behaviors, which certainly do not belong to traditions and values that she has always preserved and carried on”.

Except, then, to underline “that, after the appropriate investigations, it appears that no complaint has been submitted to the Police”. And «that when hundreds of thousands of people gather in one place to celebrate it is almost physiological that episodes of rudeness can occurwhich, however, certainly cannot undermine the value of the messages of peace, brotherhood, solidarity and love for the homeland that have been conveyed by the Gathering for over a century: messages that have emerged in all their essence on the banners worn in the parade on Sunday, with over 75 thousand black feathers from all over the world ».

On the other hand, the transfeminist movement Non Una di Meno in Rimini – which organized a counter-meeting to talk about the events of the gathering – continues to collect reports of verbal harassment, violence, inult and groping. “I’m a waitress and the level of harassment I had to endure was surreal. People who reach out, try to kiss you on the cheek after forcefully taking off your mask, continuous appreciation that goes from “you are beautiful” to asking yourself what underwear you are wearing, if you are wearing it ». And again: “People who leave their hotel room numbers, try to offer you a drink on your shift and don’t stop making jokes about femicide and rape for a moment.” Always drunk, “more and more aggressive at a certain time”.

Another woman told the association: “They told me that as a non-EU citizen I have to work hard because I have to redeem myself. It all started with a lecture on why I shouldn’t smoke, but ended with the fact that I mulatto must do more than my peers to look better, because we are already at the bottom and we must look for ways to get back ».

Still another says she had to hide in a bar of friends, after heavy insistence and the phrase: “I would lick you all”. The association also published a photo of “business cards” handed out to girls on the street, which read: “If you feel lonely and bored, call an Alpine gathering” and a mobile number.

A man, «Alpine and dad», commented: «I too feel ashamed. I have participated in about ten meetings but I must say I have noticed a worsening of morals. It is true that there are more and more “infiltrators” in the midst who arrive just to make a mess but the real Alpini on the other hand are not distinguished by moderating or curbing the imbeciles ». One woman replied: “It may well be that it is partly as you say, but I have read testimonies of people who have been chased or lured with attempts to detain them in isolated places. This is an attempted rape, not idiocy. Even if it were only 1% it is a very worrying phenomenon: who to blame if not the Alpine corps that these situations do not identify them and do not take measures? ».

And also in Turin, the volunteers of the Eurovision Song Contest reported having suffered harassment by the artists of some delegations during the inaugural party on Sunday evening at the Reggia di Venaria. The Municipality, however, immediately denied the accusations because no complaints were presented to the police. The Non una di Meno movement of Turin, however, comments: “Given the reports made public by some workers regarding the harassment suffered at their workplace during the Eurovision event, we wonder how representatives of the Municipality feel entitled to declare that nothing bad happened. As almost always happens, the voice of women experiencing violence or abuse is silenced, their stories not believed and their experiences not listened to ». And again: «What reported by the workers it is and should be considered workplace harassment and as such it should be addressed, focusing attention on the conditions of extreme exploitation and blackmail that women experience in the workplace and in some work contexts in particular “.
