GAZ began assembling the Volkswagen Taos crossover in Nizhny Novgorod

Employees of the GAZ company yesterday, May 27, officially announced the launch of mass production of the new Volkswagen Taos crossover at the plant in Nizhny Novgorod. It is worth noting that although the SUVs will be produced on the same conveyor as the Skoda Octavia, Karoq and Kodiaq cars, the latest quality control equipment was installed especially for Taos, and a new automated line was installed in the welding shop, which is responsible for the production of the hood. trunk lids and fenders. In order for the equipment to meet the high requirements of the modern market, 63 million euros (approximately 6 billion rubles) were invested in hardware.

However, the assembly of Volkswagen Taos on the same assembly line as the Skoda Karoq should not surprise anyone – the new crossover is not a completely original new model, since in many ways the cars are almost identical. The models differ from each other only in the body design (the difference is especially noticeable at the front), as well as the interior design. Taos is also slightly longer than the Karoq (4417 mm versus 4382 mm), but the width of the crossovers is the same, while the Taos height is only 1 mm larger than the opponent. Naturally, there is no difference in the engine compartment either – cars in this regard are completely unified.

For example, the base Volkswagen Taos uses a naturally aspirated 110-horsepower 1.6 MPI with front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It is also possible to choose a turbocharged 1.4 TSI engine with 150 horsepower, which comes complete with front-wheel drive and an eight-speed “automatic”. If desired, the buyer can even purchase an all-wheel drive version on a seven-speed “robot” DSG with two clutches.

Sales of Volkswagen Taos will start at the beginning of June this year, the price list for the complete set and additional options are promised to be published in the very near future. Most likely, this crossover will be slightly more expensive than the Skoda Karoq (1,529,000 rubles), but cheaper than the Volkswagen Tiguan (1,880,000 rubles).
