Gaza: 26 Palestinians lost their lives today

Twenty-six Palestinians were killed today by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, the local health ministry said, bringing the total death toll in the Palestinian enclave to 183.

The Palestinian Authority said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a house, killing two people and wounding three others.

According to the latest figures, 47 children are among the dead, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health added that 1,200 Palestinians have been injured since Monday when a new round of violence between the Israeli army and Palestinian militant groups began in Gaza.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli army confirmed that it had fired on the home of Yahya Shinuar, the head of Hamas’s political office in the Gaza Strip, but did not say whether he was inside.

The army “attacked the home of Yahya Shinar and his brother, a terrorist,” the Israeli military said in a statement posted on Twitter, showing a damaged house in a cloud of dust.

Eyewitnesses in the area confirmed that Sinoar’s house was bombed.

In March, he was re-elected chairman of Hamas’s political bureau for the Gaza Strip, a pocket of 2 million people ruled by the Islamist movement.

Yahya Shinar, who was detained in Israel for more than 20 years and was released in a prisoner exchange, was first elected to this post in February 2017.
