Gaza on the verge of famine – Greece seeks uninterrupted humanitarian aid

The international community is facing the need to ensure immediate humanitarian access and to revitalize the diplomatic process in the Gaza Strip. In this climate, the UN Security Council meeting under the chairmanship of Greece focused on the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region and the prospect of the peace process between Israel and Hamas. UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Sigrid Kaag, warned that Gaza was on the verge of famine. He stressed that the whole population is at risk, as Israeli Armed Forces operations are destroying critical infrastructure. He also called for immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian access and a significant increase in aid traditions. Mrs Kaag pointed out that the solution of the two states is “in intensive”, due to the escalation of the settlements, seizures of land and the violence of settlers on the West Bank.
