Gaza: reception of repatriated Brazilians will have support from UN ministries and agencies; understand

The reception of the group of Brazilians and family members repatriated from the Gaza Strip will have the support of ministries and agencies of the United Nations (UN).

The group of 32 people is expected to disembark at around 11:30 pm this Monday (13), at the Brasília Air Base. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane used in the repatriation was on standby in Egypt for almost a month, waiting for the group to cross from Gaza to the country through the Rafah crossing.

Brasília will be the first reception point. It is expected that representatives from various ministries and federal bodies will be present at the Air Base, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development and Federal Police.

Members of the Ministry of Health must serve the most vulnerable through the Unified Health System (SUS).

After arrival, the returnees are expected to spend two days in FAB accommodation in the federal capital. On site, they must also have medical and psychological assistance, among other services.

Throughout this arrival period, the Federal Police will carry out immigration regulation work while members of the Federal Revenue Service will work on customs issues.

UN agencies linked to working with refugees and repatriation, such as UNHCR (refugees) and IOM (migrations), will also be present with teams following protocols for receiving people in conflict zones, including interpreters.

After the stop in Brasília, part of the group goes to stay with family members while the rest goes to a shelter in the interior of São Paulo. The site has already been used for other work with war refugees.

The repatriation coordination, linked to the Ministry of Justice, is also preparing to deal with the work cards of Brazilians rescued from Gaza in a second phase.
