The Israeli government has again threatened the taking of the Gaza Strip and the removal of the Palestinian population from the site. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was one of the politicians who externalized the plans to master the region.
The speeches take place shortly after the Israeli Congress approved a measure that allows the country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, expanding military operations in the region.
“Gaza will be fully destroyed, civilians will be sent south to a humanitarian zone without hamma or terrorism, and from there they will start to go out in large numbers to other countries,” Smotrich said during a conference of the Israeli newspaper Makor Rishon about Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli ultranationalist said the transfer should last six months.
Netanyahu also reinforced the idea of moving the Palestinians to the south shortly after his security office approved the increase in military presence in Gaza.
The prime minister called the reserve soldiers to what he called the “intensified operation.”
“We are on the eve of a large entry into Gaza based on the staff recommendation,” said Netanyahu, adding that military officers told him it was time to “start the final movements.”
International organisms such as the UN condemn Israel’s plans and reinforce that the removal of Palestinians from the region is illegal, and can be classified as an “ethnic cleaning”.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says he is “shocked” by the expansionist ideas of the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
The UN also criticizes an Israeli plan to resume humanitarian aid access to Gaza. Tel Aviv blocked the entry of remittances to the region for two months.
Netanyahu’s project would be to monitor and distribute products to centers within Gaza. Human rights entities fear that this leaves Israelis even closer to guaranteeing military rule over the territory.
At the same time, the Israeli army kept attacks on site this week. A bombing reached a complex school that housed people who lost their homes and left at least twenty dead.
Israel stated that the attack went to a “Hamas Command Center”, trying to avoid injuring civilians not involved in the conflict.
