Gaza’s bombed ‘Arab Hospital’ was built by Christians and turned into a graveyard of souls

The hospital at Gauze that was bombed, is not a random structure in the area, on the contrary it is particularly well known, especially for the health services it offers to families that are constantly affected by Israeli bombardment.

The Al-Ahli is known as “Hospital of the Arabs” and was built in 1882 by the Church Mission Society of the Church of England, reports the The New Arab. Management changed administrations between churches, and for three decades from the 1950s, it was run by the Medical Mission of the Southern Baptist Church.

Also, the amos trust reports that despite extreme adversity, the hospital’s staff and volunteers are committed to serving the Gaza community, with its doors open to all who are in need.

In addition to its hospital facilities, Al Ahli provides free mobile clinics in villages across Gaza and offers expert support to the elderly, free help to underweight or malnourished children, screening programs for early detection of breast cancer in women and psychosocial support.

Families with children at Al-Ahli Hospital

Yes, during Israel’s 2014 attacks on Gaza, the hospital opened its doors to family members of the wounded who were desperate and seeking shelter, providing them with food, beds and support. Then, for that purpose hired additional staff to meet the huge need.

Thus, its members were able to keep the hospital open 24 hours a day to provide aid. The surgical team dealt with blast injuries, including abdominal injuries, bone and chest injuries, and different types of burns. On average, they experienced 45 severe burns per day as a direct result of the war, the 50% of which were children.
