Gazprom halts gas transport to Nord Stream 1 due to oil leak

Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned energy company, said on Friday that it had completely paralyzed gas transport to the Nord Stream 1 pipeline due to an oil leak in the Trent 60 gas compressor at Portovaya station.

Nord Stream 1, which connects Russia to Germany, had its activity suspended since Thursday (1st) due to maintenance.

The company has not yet given a return forecast for the gas supply to the pipeline.

The problem was detected with Siemens representatives, caused by the sealing of the cable terminal connections of the low and medium pressure rotor speed sensors.

Oil was also detected in the cable line area in the external terminal box of the station’s automatic control system outside the noise-insulating enclosure, Gazprom reported.

Similar leaks had previously been detected at the Russian station, which had undergone a factory overhaul and were currently out of order.

According to information from Siemens, these motors can only be fully serviced at a specialist repair facility.

According to Gazprom, supply to Nord Stream 1 will not resume until all issues are resolved.
