Serbian oil industry NIS was included in the sanctions list published today (January 10th) by the United States Treasury Department due to its ownership stake in Russian company Gazprom Neft. The NIS company was sanctioned due to the so-called “secondary risk”, namely its connection with Russia’s Gazprom Neft. The US Treasury Department has announced that it is taking comprehensive steps to fulfill its commitment to reduce Russian energy revenues used for the war against Ukraine. The relevant announcement was received by the Serbian government and the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic, convened a meeting with the Ministers of Energy and Finance, as well as experts on energy crises.
