Russian gas giant Gazprom has announced that it will use the land capacity of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline for Russia’s domestic needs, according to the BBC.
In a post on the Telegram, Gazprom said that because the pipeline is not currently in use, it decided to use the gas to power Russia’s northwestern regions.
Nord Stream 2 is a 1,200-kilometer pipeline under the Baltic Sea designed to transport gas from the Russian coast near St. Petersburg to Lubmin, Germany.
In February, Germany suspended the authorization process for the pipeline between it and Russia, effectively freezing the project until further notice.
