GDP is 4.5% above the pre-pandemic period, reveals IBGE

The 0.4% advance recorded in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, both in 2022, made the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) 4.5% above the level of the fourth quarter of 2019, in the pre-pandemic period of covid-19, according to data from the National Accounts compiled by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the third quarter, the Brazilian GDP reached the highest level of the historical series, which began in 1996.

According to the IBGE, Brazilian GDP grew by 0.4% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of 2022.

The result, however, was below the median estimate of financial market analysts consulted by Projeções Broadcast, calculated at 0.6%, and within the range, which indicated an increase of 0.2% to 1.0%.

Compared to the third quarter of 2021, GDP increased by 3.6% in the third quarter of 2022, in line with the median forecast (3.6%, in the range of 2.0% to 4.4% ).

Also according to the institute, GDP for the third quarter of 2022 totaled BRL 2.5 trillion.
