Economic activity increased by 0.33% in December 2021 compared to the previous month, according to the IBC-Br, (Economic Activity Index of the Central Bank) released this Friday (11) by the monetary authority.
With the high, the indicator accumulates 4.50% in 2021. The number is in line with that calculated by market analysts heard in the Focus report, released weekly by the BC, whose expectation points to 4.51%.
The month’s data, however, came in slightly below expectations, which had expected a rise of 0.6%.
The year’s high reflects the low comparison base, since in 2020, when the economy was most affected by the pandemic, it retracted 3.9%.
In relation to the same month of the previous year, the increase was 1.33%. In the last quarter of the year, according to the BC’s accounts, activity had a slight increase of 0.01% in relation to the previous three months.
The IBC-Br is seen as a kind of preview of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), whose official data will be released by the IBGE on March 4th.
In November, the index had changed by 0.69% after three consecutive months of decline.
This Friday’s result comes after the IBGE released advances in the services sector, commerce and industrial production in December and in the accumulated for the year.
