GDP registers a record expansion of 18.3% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the 18.9% expected

China’s annualized GDP figures for the fourth quarter of 2020 reached 18.3% compared to the expected 18.9% and the previous 6.5%, with the quarterly figure at 0.6% compared to the expected 1.5% and the previous 2.6%.

With respect to YoY retail sales, the figure was 34.2% versus 28.0% expected and the previous 33.8%, with the interannual industrial production at 14.1% compared to the 17.2% expected and the 35.1% seen previously.

Additional details:

GDP for the first quarter of 2021 at + 10.3% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

GDP for the fourth quarter of 2019 is revised to 3.2% quarter-on-quarter compared to 2.6% quarter-on-quarter.

The unemployment rate based on national surveys at 5.3%.

The unemployment rate based on March surveys in 31 major cities at 5.3%.

The economy created 2.97 million jobs in the January-March period.
