In an interview with CNN Rádio, FGV IBRE associate researcher Claudio Considera said that the 4.6% advance of the Brazilian economy in 2021 “recovers the fall that occurred in 2020”, the first year of a pandemic.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in the fourth quarter GDP (Gross Domestic Product) increased by 0.5%.
“All activities showed growth, with the exception of agriculture and electricity, all others had good growth, such as services, which grew 4.7%,” he said.
However, Considera recalled that per capita GDP has fallen and is “equivalent to that of 2010, which shows a serious problem, because the Brazilian economy is not managing to grow sustainably.”
“I see the result with optimism, but warning of problems that we may have during this year, the research institute has forecast weak growth of 0.7%, something has to improve in terms of economic policy for us to grow organically again” , analyzed.
According to the economist, the outlook for this year is not good.
“We have inflation, which takes away the purchasing power of families and reduces consumption. Inflation and the war in Ukraine are trouble spots, they will even hinder our wheat imports, which largely come from Russia. All world trade must have mishaps.”
