Apparently, Nvidia is not at all opposed to cryptocurrency miners buying the most expensive model of the Ampere line – the GeForce RTX 3090: it, as the source writes, is the only one in the entire series that will not receive hardware protection from mining.
“Anti-mining” GeForce RTX 3060, GeForce 3060 Ti, GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080 are on the way, in turn, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will debut with hardware protection from mining. But there is no evidence that the GeForce RTX 3090 will have such protection. This model is noticeably more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3080 and, naturally, will be more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, but its performance is not much higher than that of its younger sisters. In other words, such a video card is practically uninteresting for gamers, besides, games do not require as much memory as the RTX 3090. At the same time, this product is expensive and highly profitable, and Nvidia is clearly not against miners buying GeForce RTX 3090 for use in their farms.
At the other end of the Ampere line, there are also video cards that will not receive protection from mining, but for a different reason. We are talking about the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti – they are simply not interesting for miners due to their limited performance. Instead, the same Radeon RX 6700 XT is better suited for these purposes.
