Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini is about to open a new office in India to expand its activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Gemini founders Cameron brothers and Tyler Winklevoss have announced that Gemini CTO Pravjit Tiwana has been appointed to the position of chief executive of the exchange’s India division. He will lead the launch of new Gemini products in the region and manage finance. Tiwana joined the exchange over a year ago, having previously worked at Amazon Web Services and held senior product development positions at Microsoft and Disney.

A new Gemini office will be opened in the Indian city of Gurgaon. This division is expected to become Gemini’s second largest contact center after the US, in addition to offices in the UK, Ireland and Singapore.

The Indian authorities have taken a tough stance on cryptocurrencies, but Tiwana did not comment on the situation with their regulation in the country. He only said that the country is rich in talented people in the field of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, so over time, Gemini will replenish the staff of local employees.

“Gemini has big plans for the Asia-Pacific region this year. We will first set up product development teams in India. We also intend to implement strategies to enter the Singapore market to expand our user base and attract more institutional clients,” said Gemini management.

Many U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchanges are exploring overseas markets as U.S. regulators are hostile to the crypto industry. For example, this week, Gemini’s competitor, Coinbase, announced that it had received a license to operate in Bermuda.
