Gene Simmons celebrates sale of Kiss catalog: “We toured for 50 years”

Gene Simmons, bassist and founder of Kiss, celebrated the sale of the band's catalog to the Swedish company Pophouse. The agreement was made public on Thursday (4).

The transaction values were not officially disclosed by the company of billionaire Conni Jonsson and Björn Ulvaeus, a member of ABBA. With the movement, Kiss follows in the footsteps of Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan.

In an interview with People, Simmons explained that they were not looking for buyers, but were already starting to plan the group's retirement.

“We were planning our respectful and proud exit at sunset, because we are on tour, we have been on tour for 50 years,” he said. “I don’t want to go out there with my walker,” joked the American.

For him, this decision is part of Kiss' moment, as they need to know when to leave the game on top.

“We've all seen boxers and artists who stay in the ring for too long and get knocked out by some amateur. You don’t want to do that, you want to leave the scene on top,” he explained.

In addition to the band's entire musical catalogue, Pophouse also purchased Kiss' brand and intellectual property. The goal is to use the band's legacy to create experiences and new products over the years, as the company did with ABBA.

“We will protect and enrich this legacy through future global endeavors, breathing new life into its characters and personas, while leveraging and elevating the visual world of Kiss,” said Per Sundin, CEO of Pophouse, in a press release.
