General Juan Jose Zuñiga, identified as the leader of the coup attempt in La Paz, Bolivia, spoke to journalists after being arrested and suggested that the irregular mobilizations of the Bolivian Army this Wednesday (26) had been combined between the two.
According to the El Deber portal, Bolivian President Luis Arce told Zuñiga “that the situation was very complicated, very critical” and that it was necessary “to prepare something to increase his popularity.
Zuniga, then, would have said: “are we going to remove the armored vehicles?” and Arce would have agreed. “Then, on Sunday night, the armored vehicles started to move,” Zuñiga continued. “Six rattlesnakes and six urutus, in addition to 14 Z from the Achacachi Regiment”, he added.
After the statements, which were made in front of the Vice Minister of Internal Affairs, Jhonny Aguilera, the general and former Army commander was taken to the police facilities.

Since 2022, Juan José Zuñiga has served as commander-in-chief of the Bolivian Army.
But, on Monday (24), the military man made controversial statements against former Bolivian president Evo Morales, saying that he “can no longer be president of this country”.
His statements cost him his position, as the government decided to fire him on Tuesday (25). However, the military revolted against the Executive, leading the uprising.
