«Generation 56K»: how is the first series of The Jackal on Netflix

After the video about the golden years and the still indestructible myth of Max Pezzali from five years ago, we kind of expected that The Jackal would dedicate their first TV series to a certain “nostalgia effect” that still transpires today in who was born between the eighties and nineties, the freshest witnesses of a historical phase that led to the disappearance of videotapes, floppies and CDs, making us think that the period in which we did not photograph ourselves with a fork in hand was the most beautiful of our life.

56K Generation, the series produced by Cattleya and available on Netflix from July 1st, talks about this, but also about much more. At the center of this very light and very enjoyable modern fairy tale there is, in fact, the love between Daniel (Angelo Spagnoletti) and Matilda (Cristina Cappelli), two boys who knew each other as children and who meet again by chance in adulthood, dealing with the classic sentimental complications of love stories which, instead of helping them get closer, seem to distance them more and more.

Through two time planes that take us back to Procida in the nineties, with decades of protagonists escaping from the grip of bullies and looking for a way to earn money to buy the Play Station (write down the name of the Princess Birch, then you will understand), and in today’s Naples, with the characters forced to deal with hyper-technology that risks crushing that remnant of spontaneity that survived the advent of social media and the narcissism that ensued, 56K Generation it is also an opportunity to talk about values such as family and friendship that cross the temporal and generational boundaries bringing together the public of all age groups and all walks of life. Through a very light language and a photography that focuses on very saturated colors and full of liveliness (especially in the scenes shot in Procida, custodians of childhood memories that seem ever brighter if you look at it from adulthood), the series gets to the point giving the viewer the opportunity to look at something pleasant to brighten up the summer evenings.

The fil rouge with The Jackal, as well as the director of the first four episodes Francesco Ebbasta, is guaranteed by the extraordinary participation of Fabio Balsamo, who had already proved to be very good in Goodbye fucking green faces, the first youtubers film a few years ago, e Gianluca Fru, the first eliminated from the first edition of LOL – Who laughs is out on Amazon Prime Video: the two actors are two perfect comic (tragi) shoulders, as well as Claudia Tranchese, Federica Pirone and Sebastiano Kiniger. In short, everyone is good, including the little ones Alfredo Cerrone and Azzurra Iacone who lend their faces to Daniel and Matilda as children. 56K Generation it is based on an original idea by Francesco Ebbasta, written by him together with Costanza Durante, Laura Grimaldi and Davide Orsini, who is also its head writer.
