Derek Skipper, 92, from the city of Orwell, in Great Britain, surprised the world by passing one of the most difficult math exams. The man claimed to return to the classroom just for fun and without imagining that his grade would make history.
According to the BBC and educational authorities in Great Britain, Skipper became the oldest person to obtain the highest score in the GCSE: General Certificate of Secondary Education mathematics test.
Skipper got a Grade 5 grade, that is, the highest possible in the history of the country. He is now considered a mathematical genius who only needed to study the preparation course to solve the exam through Zoom. As if that were not enough, Skipper claimed that he had not taken a math test since 1946.
I am very happy with the result. When I took the exam in 1946, the truth was that I was not very prepared. My goal was to get at least Grade 4, but Grade 5 is a great thing. Although my family thought I was crazy to try, in the end, they all ended up supporting me and now they are as proud of me as I am.
I wouldn’t have been surprised to fail, because I can’t see well when reading anymore. But the magnifying glass was a great help. I didn’t care if I passed the exam or not. I just wanted to have fun.
