Georgantas at SEVT: ‘Greek products advertise our country abroad’

The Agri-food sector can develop into a “key” for the transformation of the productive model of the country. This was emphasized by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, George Georgantas in his greeting at the General Assembly of the Association of Greek Food and Beverage Industries. “The agri-food sector can be the key to transformation and attract a lot of foreign investment,” he said, adding that the conditions for achieving this goal are a combination of business and state forces. He also spoke about the targeted treatment of problems, the best possible use of opportunities created and the modernization of businesses, by utilizing new technologies, in the direction of serving the new needs and habits formed in the consumer public, through the overlapping global crises.

“Greece has products whose high nutritional value and quality advertise our country abroad and create an important brand,” added G. Georgantas, emphasizing that the industry offers crucial support to the Greek economy, as it holds a significant share in exports and is the largest employer in the manufacturing sector, offering significant support to GDP. The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure estimates that “there is even more potential for growth through enhanced competitiveness, extroversion, research – innovation and increased investment”.

Finally, he called on the members of the Association to take advantage of the opportunities created by the crisis for Greece to claim a greater share of its products in the international markets, while expressing its confidence that with the government’s support for entrepreneurship and their own will and dynamism, the specific goal can be achieved.
