Wimbledon debut for George of Cambridge, who for the first time joined mother Kate Middleton and father William to attend the finals of one of the most famous tennis tournaments in the world, which saw Novak Djokovic triumph over Nick Kyrgios.

A very rare event, because children usually do not access the royal box. For example, the case of the Duchess of Kent has remained in the annals of the tournament, who in 1999 invited the 12-year-old son of a friend of hers who had recently died. The “no” to access the royal box sparked a small case, so much so that the director of the tennis club had to apologize to the noblewoman with an official statement and argue for her refusal: the presence of the child would have taken away the place of “more deserving” people, especially those who with their donations helped support tennis. Furthermore, the child in question was a commoner, another negative point.
For the little royals, however, some exceptions are granted, although very rarely. Lady Diana, for example, every now and then he was taking William to Wimbledon with himand today he does the same with his son.

Manuela DUPONT / Getty ImagesBefore the match, George was introduced to the President of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and some employees of the Center Court, the main court of the facility, and it was Kate, a regular at the tournament, who did the honors. Her handshakes like the grown-ups for the little prince, who will turn 9 on 23 July, a lot of complicity with his parents in the stands and some understandable moments of boredom.
Tennis, however, is one of his favorite sports. IS Roger Federer was the one who gave him the very first lessons, to Anmer Hall: ‘I spent some time with him», Revealed the champion in 2019,« I’m his favorite player, also because I’m the only one he’s met, it’s an advantage ». Is there a budding tennis player in the family? For now, the prince is playing with his mother and brothers Charlotte and Louis at the Hurlingham Club, in Fulham, with an annual membership of £ 1600. Then he cheers, of course, and gazes at the trophies in admiration, but to keep them in his hand it’s definitely early: “It’s a bit heavy”she told her mother when she had a chance to look closely at the winner’s cup.
It is not the first time that the Cambridge eldest son follows his parents on a sporting occasion. The prince had seen himself in February, at the Rugby Six Nations Trophy, and also in 2021, during the final of the European football championships between England and Italy. Little undemanding things, in anticipation of the future that awaits him. For the moment, however, studying and playing are his priorities.
With classes at Thomas’s Battersea in London closed, George is expected to change schools in September. Kate and William, in fact, are planning to leave London to approach Windsor, where Queen Elizabeth permanently resides. The choice, at least so it is rumored, would have fallen on Lambrock School, in Berkshire, which will also be attended by Charlotte and Louis, ready to start kindergarten. Little principles grow. Very fast.
