Writer George RR Martin, creator of “Game of Thrones”, used the turn of 2023 to 2024 to confirm that three animations from the medieval fantasy universe are already in development.
The news was made through a post published on George Martin's personal website. According to the author, everything is being developed in conversations with the production company HBO. “HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' he said, referring to the book series that inspired the “Game of Thrones” series.
“I think we’re close to taking the next step with some of them,” he added. According to the author, the initial idea was to produce four animations. However, two of the original designs were later shelved.
The other two continue at a “fast pace”. George Martin also announced that the live-action project “Sea Snake”, inspired by the fantasy universe and confirmed by him previously, was also transformed into animation, now called “Nine Voyages”.
“There is a whole world out there. And we have a much better chance of showing all of this with animation. So now we have three animation projects in the works,” concludes George RR Martin.
“Game of Thrones” has eight seasons and is an adaptation of the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire”. The plot is the portrait of two powerful families – kings and queens, knights and renegades, honest men and liars – playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros to assume the Iron Throne.
The series won a spin-off in 2022, titled “House of the Dragon”. The story takes place 20 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and focuses on the Targaryens.
