Saga “Game of Thrones”, George RR Martin published about the “recreation” of the species wolf-terrible, extinguished more than twelve thousand years ago . The writer, who is one of the company’s investors who claims to have rescued animal from extinction, posed with one of the animals on his official blog.
The American startup Colossal Biosciences claimed this week that he recreated Three-terrible wolves, prehistoric animals that have been extinct for 12,000 years .
The twisted wolves have already been portrayed in various works of pop culture, in the song “Dire Wolf”, by the band Gateful Dead, released in 1970, the RPG game “Dungeons & Dragons” and the video game “Ark: Survival Evolved”.
But the most famous representation of these animals, which made their name known, appears in the books and in the series of “Game of Thrones”.
“I met them all in February. And I met Rômulo and Remo too,” wrote the author on the blog. The third wolf was nicknamed Khaleesi.
In the story of “Game of Thrones”, the Terrible Wolf is an animal that lives in the north, but is rarely seen, besides being the Casa Stark symbol. Six puppies of the species are found and adopted at the beginning of the plot, each by one of Ned Stark’s sons.
Wolves become companions of their owners, but also have the role of protectors, saving the Stark from various dangers throughout the series.
Scientists disagree that outer wolves have returned from extinction
While colossal biosciences has used the term “des-extinguishing” to refer to the process and the birth of the three white hair, some scientists disagree that we are witnessing the “rebirth” of a species.
The paleoecologist at the University of Otago, Nic Rawlen, spoke about the announcement on his social networks: “This is not a terrible wolf. It is a gray wolf with characteristics of terrible wolf, a ‘hybrid’.”
In an interview with BBC, he explained his statement better and said that DNA extracted from fossilized remains is very damaged to be reliable in terms of serving as a model
