The 14-year-old student suspected of killing two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School was questioned by police last year about “multiple anonymous reports of online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and time,” according to a joint statement from the Atlanta FBI and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
The online threats included photographs of weapons, the affidavit said.
The suspect and his father were then interviewed by the county sheriff’s department.
“The father stated that he had hunting weapons at home, but the suspect did not have unsupervised access to them,” the statement read. “The suspect denied making the online threats. Jackson County has alerted local schools to the continued monitoring of the suspect. At this time, there was no probable cause for arrest or for any further action by local, state or federal authorities,” the statement added.
Isolated case
At a press conference on Wednesday night (4), Georgia Police Director Chris Hosey said there is no evidence that other schools were targeted, but investigators are following “any leads on possible accomplices of the shooter involved in this incident.”
“There is no evidence that any other shooter was involved in this incident today,” Hosey said. “There is no evidence of a list of schools being targeted,” Hosey added. “However, there is a lot of evidence being recovered and evaluated.”
“We are reviewing everything to determine if there are active threats to any schools in this area, in this county and in the state of Georgia, and we will continue to monitor that throughout the investigation,” Hosey said.
Weapon access
Authorities are still investigating how the “AR-platform type weapon” used in the shooting got into the school, Hosey said.
“We’re still trying to sort out a lot of the details of the timeline from when he arrived at school today to the incident,” Hosey said.
During the press conference, authorities reported that the injured are in stable condition and “will recover well.”
